Jay's Kansas City bus ride adventure 2

NOTE: I feel like I am doing a commercial or endorsement of the Kansas City Metro Bus System and I am not. The Metro Bus System in Kansas City sucks! There is really not any other way to put it. It is inconvenient and the people that work there, most are rude but not all. The routs are hard to figure out. Bus some bus drivers are rude. The only reason why I use the Kansas City Metro Bus is because I have to. Parking is a huge nightmare downtown, especially if your employer doesn't provide or pay for your parking. You are looking at anywhere from $3 to $8 a day just to park to $65 to $85 a month to park. The City of Kansas City, Missouri does a great job of screwing over people with disabilities. Yeah sure they will let you park downtown in a meter parking spot for only 4 hours then after that you either have to move your car or get a ticket. It would seem that the City of Kansas City, Missouri and employers downtown discriminate against people with disabilities.

Friday morning I walked down to catch the bus from where I parked. There was my new friend that I call Thelma. She was wearing a jean jacket and had a head wrap around her head to cover her ears.

I said "Good morning" and Thelma said Good morning back. I said that it was a little chilly out that morning and she agreed and said that she wished that she had worn a heaver coat. Thelma also went on to say that she didn't go out the day before because it was rainy and cold and she just will not go out when it is cold and rainy but if it was warm and rainy, she would.

Thelma went on to say that she has not turned on her heat and can go all winter long because the heat that comes up from the other apartments keeps her apartment nice and toasty. Thelma said that she sometimes has to open up a window to cool the place off sometimes.

Thelma went on to complain about the bells that ring all the time at the near by cathedral. The ma said that it is worse on Sundays but she is not going to move out, although that has caused a lot of other people to move out. Thelma said that it was a lot of work to move because she doesn't have a car and had to take some of her stuff that she moved on the bus.

The bus came and she got on and I got on right behind her. She got off at the same spot she got off the day before. I hope that she had a good day, I know I did.

Jay's Kansas City bus ride adventure.

This past Friday, I took the bus in Kansas City for the first time. Let me just say that I will always remember my first experience.

I parked my car at United Way and walked down to the bus stop. There was this old women sitting there with a coat and an ear wrap. The first thing that she said to me was that it was cold out there. I agreed that it was a little chilly. She went on to inform me that she lived in the high rise across the street for low income elderly. I said kewl, how do you like it, I asked. She said that it was very nice but that is because she keeps her apartment clean unlike the others that live there. I said, oh I see.

The little old lady, lets call her Thelma. She looked like a Thelma. Thelma went on to tell me that she had a busy day planned. She had to go to Price Chopper and the bank. I asked where there was a Price Chopper. Thelma informed me that there was a Price Chopper on Independence Avenue and that the Cosentino's downtown was just way to expensive. Thelma went on to tell me that she was taking care of her business that day and that she had taken care of her sisters the day before. I made the mistake of asking Thelma if she drove in which she was quick to inform me that she did not own a car.

Thelma then went on to tell me about her sister and that the sister had a rocky marriage. Thelma said that she would always kick the guy out either by throwing his stuff in the bath tub or on the porch. Thelma indicated that the police would have taken the kids one if she would not have been there. I said oh, I see.

Thelma went on to talk even more about his sister. As it would turn out her sister lived in the same apartment high rise that she did. Let's call Thelma's sister Alice. Thelma informed me that Alice was gaining weight and her doctor was getting mad at Alice for doing it. Thelma even offered to walk with Alice but Alice refused.

Thelma then made a comment about someone who lives in the high rise. This guy asked her to pick him up some cigarettes. Thelma told him no because he is on oxygen and that no one on oxygen should be smoking, not that she had anything against people who smoke. Thelma said that he can buy is own cigarettes. Thelma also reported that this guy goes to the boat a lot.

The bus came and we both got up and got on the bus. My visit with this stranger was over. As I chuckled to myself I thought how interesting that it was that this total stranger decided to share a bit of her life with me and I didn't get a word in edge wise. Oh well, maybe I will run into her again. I will keep you posted.
